YOU SAW IT HERE FIRST: Hackensack firefighters rescued six cats and returned them to their owners after snuffing a kitchen stove fire that severely damaged a unit in a Polifly Road apartment complex tonight.

The call came in just after 6:30 p.m. at the three-story garden apartment complex across from the Stony Hill Inn.

Three Hackensack engines, a ladder truck and a rescue unit began attacking the second-floor blaze. A second alarm brought a Teaneck FAST team.

The fire was knocked down in under five minutes, during which city firefighters found the felines. Hackensack Volunteer EMS workers tended to the cats before they were returned to their owners.

The blaze was officially declared under control at 7:06 p.m.

Hackensack police and the city building department also responded.

The South Hackensack and Bogota companies covered the city.
