YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Animal Cruelty Task Force were investigating the death of a horse on a Mahwah farm last week, multiple sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The horse caught a leg in a metal hay feeder and apparently panicked, tried to get free and fell in further, suffering a huge neck gash Wednesday evening.
Mahwah police and firefighters, Tyco Animal Control and a driver from NAR Towing who summoned authorities were all at the Ramapo Valley Road property nearly four hours after the incident, responders said.
The horse eventually died from blood loss, sources with knowledge of the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.
The carcass was removed Wednesday afternoon.
