A Garfield man got punched in the face when he chased and tried to stop a man from taking a family member’s bike, police said.
The Ray Street resident told officers the Hispanic bandit was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt when he swiped the bicycle just after 3 p.m., Capt. Darren Sucorowski told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight.
He said he chased and caught up to the thief, who got off the bike and socked him, disorienting him for the moment as he fled down a side street.
EMTs treated the man at the scene, Sucorowski said.
Anyone with information that could help find the bike and the thief is asked to call Garfield police: (973) 478-8500.
