BEYOND BERGEN: A flying tire that flew over a Route 80 median caused a crash that killed a 77-year-old Englewood Cliffs man and injured his 66-year-old wife in Morris County last night.
Sheldon and Randi Lefkowitz were headed west in Rockaway when the tire hit came off the rear axle of a Dodge Ram and hit their Audi around 7:20 p.m. State Police said.
Lefkowitz lost control of the vehicle car, hitting a pickup hauling a trailer and then a Mercedes Benz before bouncing off a guardrail, they said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
His wife was taken to Morristown Medical Center with injuries that police said weren’t life-threatening.
No charges were immediately filed.
