TRIBUTE: A Wallington veteran firefighter who spent his adult life serving the public died overnight after falling from the roof of a burning restaurant.
Gregory Barnas, 57, was cutting a hole in the roof to vent the burning Akasaka restaurant on Paterson Avenue when he fell.
The captain was later pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center.
His two sons, firefighters Kevin and John Barnas, were battling the blaze, as well.
Barnas, who served as department chief in 1997, fought fires for nearly 30 years.
He is survived by his sons and wife, Patricia.
