YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A gunman who robbed a CVS in Garfield this afternoon had the same M.O. as one who held up both a Rite Aid in Hasbrouck Heights and a Sunoco station in Elmwood Park last night, CLIFFVIEW PILOT has learned.
K9 units from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office searched neighborhoods around the store at Midland and Van Winkle avenues after the 3:50 p.m. robbery but lost the scent, police at the scene said.
The robber was described as light-skinned, Hispanic and wearing nearly all black, including a wool hat, as well as a red scarf covering his face (see surveillance image, above).
Police said he pulled a gun and told a clerk to put all the money from her register in his backpack “or he’ll shoot her.”
He then fled with $660, they said.
Authorities suspect he may have gotten away in a green Sebring convertible. They were checking surveillance video from the CVS and surrounding stores.
The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification said it appears to be the same robber who hit the Hasbrouck Heights pharmacy – reported exclusively this morning on CLIFFVIEW PILOT, as well as the Elmwood Park gas station.
