YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A quick-spreading dumpster fire destroyed a Norwood Department of Public Works warehouse late this afternoon into early evening, sending columns of smoke visible from miles away.
The fire broke out around 4:50 p.m. and quickly jumped to three alarms, extending to four bays of a six-bay storage area at the Broadway warehouse.
Among those responding along with Norwood, Demarest and River Vale was the New Milford HazMat unit.
Meanwhile, Cresskill, Harrington Park, Dumont remained on standby to cover any other Norwood calls.
Fire companies initially reported water problems. The fire was knocked down but still going more than an hour after it was reported.
