YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: An “obese” bandit driving a car with Georgia license plates left behind helpful clues after smacking a female Ridgewood bank employee in the face and fleeing when the bank refused to cash a bogus check this afternoon, police said.

The heavyset black bandit hit the employee as he fled the TD Bank on Franklin Avenue after a teller refused to cash the check around 3:15 p.m., Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

She declined medical attention, he said.

Witnesses described the getaway car as a gray Volkswagen Jetta with Georgia license plates.

Authorities were reviewing surveillance video and still shots from the bank, Ward said.

They also collected evidence that includes the check, he said, without elaborating.

Ward said he will be charged with robbery, among other offenses, because of the assault.

“Any use of force in a theft is a robbery,” the chief explained.
