SHOUT OUT: A fundraiser for Special Olympics New Jersey saw motorcycle officers from the Fort Lee Police Department win several awards this past weekend.
Officers and civilians from the New Jersey and New York area competed in various events during the Motorcycle Skills and Competition at the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne.
“While we are very proud of the participating officers, we are prouder to support this worthy cause and organization,” Fort Lee Police Chief Keith Bendul said.
Besides raising money, the competition “allows motor officers to maintain critical skills used each day as they conduct escorts and traffic enforcement details,” Bendul said.
Members of the NJ Police Motorcycle Officers Training Association conducted the event, the chief said.
Fort Lee’s finest placed in all five events:
• Officer Alejandro Lorenzo – 1st place in the Motor Officer Novice Division
• Officer George Koutroubinis – 2nd place in the Motor Officer Expert Division
• Koutroubinis – 2nd place in the Slow Ride event
• Koutroubinis and East Rutherford Officer Brian Mantague – 2nd place in the Tandem Ride
• Officer Richard Rochford – 2nd place in the Challenge Ride
Also participating were Fort Lee Sgt. Ricky Mirkovic and and Officer Peter Lacovara
