YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A self-employed ticket broker from Bergenfield pulled his legs through handcuffs to get his arms in front of him before assaulting New Milford police who went to his mother’s home on a disturbance call, authorities said.

“It is best if you handcuff me now for all of your safety,” 35-year-old Andrew Kleber told the responding officers after they found him “intoxicated and stumbling” into his mother’s Holly Street kitchen just before midnight Sunday, Detective Lt. Brian Long told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

Kleber had called police himself, Long said.

His mother, who’d just arrived home, told them that there’d been no physical confrontation, he added.

In addition to suggesting handcuffs, Kleber told one of the officers to check his bag, Long said. Inside was “a vast amount” of Ritalin and Carisoprodol pills without prescriptions, the lieutenant said.

Kleber then slipped his hands below his feet to the front of his body, got up from a kitchen chair and began swinging with closed fists at the officers, Long said.

The lieutenant said they pushed Kleber back into the chair, and he began kicking the officers, shouting: “F*ck you guys. You all think you are tough!”

Kleber was processed on three charges each of aggravated assault on police and possession of prescription drugs, as well as a single count of resisting arrest.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail, posted $25,000 on Monday and was released pending a court hearing.
